PLAYING OF STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN DURING HALFTIME SHOW DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WOLVERINES’ SECOND HALF COLLAPSE
FITSNews – January 1, 2007 – The Michigan Wolverines were locked in an epic defensive struggle with the Southern Cal Trojans at the 93rd Annual Rose Bowl Monday, with the score tied 3-3 at the half and the second stanza of play promising drama and excitement untold.
The players, coaches and over 100,000 fans in the stands and millions more watching on national television could all feel it – this game was going to be “One for the Ages.”
All of that came to an abrupt end, however, the moment the University of Michigan Marching Band incorporated the song “Stairway to Heaven” into a Led Zeppelin medley during the halftime show.
Sure enough, the eighth-ranked Trojans proceeded to open up a can of whoop ass on Michigan in the second half, erupting for four touchdowns in the final thirty minutes en route to a 32-18 drubbing of the third-ranked Wolverines.
The “NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN RULE,” first enforced in the 1992 cult film Wayne’s World, was created specifically to protect the integrity of the most-requested, most-played song in the history of radio.
As Michigan learned Monday, violaters are dealt with severely.

Ah, Mr. Maloney. Of Danille, California. On the Alto Sax. Wow. That someone in the Michigan Marching Band actually read this is amazing.
First of all, Vanderbilt is hardly Division I-A – which we know down here in South Carolina because we play them every year. Michigan playing Vanderbilt is like the New Engliand Patriots playing Hampton-Sydney. With respect to Notre Dame, well you guys were tempting fate and got away with it, we guess.
Of course we are totally kidding and you guys played really well. Especially on Kashmir. That is such a badass song.
We’re STILL wondering WHy they played it at halftime at all. My husband thought they were going to form a “48” for President Ford.
