FITSNews – November 13, 2007 – South Carolina blogs including FITSNews and The Palmetto Scoop are teaming up with college networking giant Facebook to help friends and family of Kyle Fleischmann in their search for the missing 24-year old Charlotte man.

Fleischmann, who was filmed by a security camera leaving the Buckhead Saloon in Charlotte at around 2:20 A.M. last Friday morning, has not been seen or heard from since. According to the Palmetto Scoop’s story:

-Kyle is a 6′0″ male with brown hair. He has a muscular build and weighs approx. 180 lbs.
-Kyle was last seen early Friday morning around 2:20am in Uptown Charlotte, NC leaving the Buckhead Saloon on 5th Street.
-Kyle was wearing a black shirt, jeans, and black dress shoes. It is believed he left his black pea coat at the bar along with his credit card.
-It is not known whether or not Kyle took a cab or tried to find a ride home. His last contact was 3 phone calls made around 3:30am Friday morning. His cell phone has been off since.
-If you have any information regarding Kyle’s whereabouts after 2:30am Friday morning, who he left Buckhead Saloon with, or anything else you may find helpful please contact: Richard Fleischmann at 704-258-7782 or Daniel at 336-262-6958.

Kyle’s friends and family have also set up a website, www.helpfindkyle.com, to aid in the search effort. Obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with Kyle and his family for his safe return …

Tragedy Strikes South Carolina College Students October 28, 2007

nc fire

FITSNews – October 28, 2007 – Six University of South Carolina students and one Clemson University student were killed when an early-morning fire consumed a waterfront vacation home in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., this morning. Six more students from USC were injured in the blaze, but all of them have thankfully been treated and released from an area hospital. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. From news reports:

The fire struck sometime before 7 a.m. and burned completely through the first and second floors, leaving only part of the frame standing. The waterfront home — named “Changing Channels” — was built on stilts, forcing firefighters to climb a ladder onto the house’s deck to reach the first living floor.

This is the second time this year that a fire claiming multiple lives has affected the Palmetto State. In June, nine Charleston firefighters perished when the roof of a burning furniture warehouse collapsed on them while they were inside fighting the blaze.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of today’s victims, as well as to the University of South Carolina and Clemson families.

bush approval

FITSNews – September 14, 2007 – So we watched President George W. Bush‘s address to the America about the War in Iraq last night. Well, we watched the first five minutes of it before somebody demanded that we change the channel to Baseball Tonight. Anyway, it’s been nine months since Bush announced that he was sending some “additionamal” troops to The Iraq, as we like to call it here in South Carolina.

So … how’s that whole troop surge thing working out? Shrub says pretty good. Congressional Democrats say pretty sh*tty.

Personally, we don’t get it. And the fact that more Americans were probably pissed off about missing Grey’s Anatomy than they were about whatever the hell is happening in Iraq says something about something, we’re just not sure what.

We’ve written in the past about America’s diminished stomach for armed conflict, and the way we figure it, if a video game war can kill the bad guys just as good as a real one, why risk it? Sophisticated analysis? Bet your ass … (more…)

A Mighty Fortress September 11, 2007

Posted by fitsnews in Uncategorized.

FITSNews – September 11, 2007 – It probably seems at times like we don’t have a religious bone in our bodies, but for some reason last year on the old FITS website we felt the best way to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks was to simply reprint Martin Luther’s famous hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” set to the tune of Ein’ Feste Burg.

We feel the same way this year …

1. A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.

2. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabbaoth, His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle.

3. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him.

4. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru Him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God’s truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever.

And all the people said …

South Carolina Is Full Of Fat People August 27, 2007

fat ass

FITSNews – August 27, 2007 – We wrote just last week about how South Carolinians were getting fatter, and how our state’s growing obesity problem was causing all sorts of chronic diseases among our citizens. Today, a report shows that the Palmetto state is indeed the fifth-fattest in the nation, a three-spot jump from its 2006 ranking.

According to the report, 27.8% of South Carolina adults are obese, a 1.6% increase from last year. In 2004, South Carolina ranked 13th in the nation with a 24.5% obesity rate. For the first time ever, the report also looked at childhood obesity, with South Carolina ranking 7th in the nation with 17.9% of our kids qualifying as obese.

Actually, this is encouraging news – at least it is if you’re a Social Darwinist who wants South Carolinians to perish en masse as a result of heart disease, diabetes, stroke death and cancer. If not, then it’s probably pretty sh*tty news.

Cast Your Votes For The “Palmetto Power 50” August 15, 2007

Speaker Cobb-Hunter

FITSNews – August 15, 2007 – We figured since GQ magazine just released it’s list of the 50 most powerful people in Washington, D.C., somebody ought to put together a similar list for the Palmetto State. And who better to do it than us, right?

Clearly, Speaker Gilda Cobb-Hunter is at the top of our list – which is pretty amazing considering she’s not actually the Speaker and she’s a Democrat in the middle of a “Republican-controlled” government. We’re also pretty sure another Democrat, U.S. Rep Jim Clyburn, is going to clock in at No. 3, just behind Democrat-turned-Republican Hugh Leatherman. (more…)

Dropping The Obomba August 2, 2007

FITSNews – August 2, 2007 – Just call it the “O-bomb.”

Dropped yesterday on the 2008 presidential race, Illinois Senator Barack Obama’s pronouncement that America should take the fight to al-Queda in Pakistan (if the Pakistani government won’t) is generating a ton of buzz among political pundits, foreign policy analysts and his fellow candidates. Delivered at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., Obama’s first major foray into the global terrorism debate certainly made him sound more like a hawk than a dove:

“I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges,” Obama said. “But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. … If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will.”

Cool, we say. We’ve always felt that terrorist targets (of high, low or medium value) should be O-bombed back to the Stone Age no matter where they were located, and failing to bomb somebody who deserves it simply to kiss a little ass in the Arab world is the surest way to invite another September 11. In case America hasn’t noticed, the Arab world pretty much hates us already, and if we’re paying a lot of money for fancy Stealth bombers and other war toys, we might as well use them. Rock on, O-bomba!

Echo Chamber – Educrats Assail African-American Senator July 29, 2007

goose step

FITSNews – July 29, 2007 – It didn’t take long for the education establishment to turn on S.C. Sen. Darrell Jackson.

After suggesting last month that a “time was coming” when he would support school choice given the unequivocal failure of South Carolina’s K-12 monopoly to meet the needs of our state’s students, the African-American Senator was publicly harangued this weekend by a leading member of the educrat establishment.

In a letter to The State newspaper on Saturday, Richland School District One Chairwoman Wendy C. Brawley publicly accused Jackson of harboring selfish motivations, being ignorant of African-American history, failing to adequately support public education and conspiring to “eliminate public education.” (more…)

chinese execution

FITSNews – July 11, 2007 – Talk about a bad year for Sino-Sensical relations. We’ve written about Chinese architecture and Chinese censorship on FITSNews recently, but today our focus is on Chinese government reform. Which is a lot like American government reform except the people involved are shorter and they get killed for f’ing up …

Battered by worldwide outrage over exports of poisoned pet food, toxic toothpaste, filthy fish and doctored drugs, China executed a top minister in charge of product safety yesterday. Zheng Xiaoyu, who was head of China’s State Food and Drug Administration from 1997 until last year, was charged with taking $800,000 in bribes to approve tainted and untested products. Zheng, 63, was sentenced to death in May for dereliction of duty. His swift execution was designed to send a global message.

Uhhh … mission accomplished. As far as we can tell, that message is “if you mess up in China, you die.” Which is sort of like when Coolio says “if you don’t work, you don’t eat” except probably even a little bit harsher than that. And Coolio tells it like it is, people. He’s got like a PhD in blunts … er, being blunt. When Coolio tells us to “stay sucka-free and keep the busters off yo jock,” you better believe we listen. After all, that’s the only way we’ll ever be ready when the 5 rolls by.

Politics In France Is Crazy Sexy June 18, 2007

FITSNews – June 18, 2007 – We’re seriously considering changing the formal name of our little news outlet from “Faith In The Sound” to “France Is The Sh*t.” And why not? While mayonnaise remains the only thing the French have gotten right … like, ever … at least their politics are interesting. According to a recent article entitled Les Liasons Dangerouses, both candidates in the recently-concluded French elections are dodging all sorts of rumors about their sex lives:

The mistress of the French President is about to have an illegitimate child and his glamorous, moody wife is turning up part-time in the Elysée Palace only to keep up appearances. The sexy Socialist who lost the election has dumped the partner who is also her boss and is an item with a bestselling novelist. If you dip into the internet or listen at French tables, you’ll know that this is the gossip on Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal (pictured above), the pair who became global celebrities with their riveting electoral duel in the spring.

The story also informs us that the mainstream French media doesn’t cover all the celebrity gossip, but that “the internet and celebrity culture are breaching the palace walls.” You know, our first thought after reading that line was that Paris Hilton should run for president, but then we remembered the AP doesn’t cover her. Well, that’s one reason she shouldn’t be president. She’s also in jail. Not to mention a slutty, hate-mongering idiot. Oh well, guess it’s time for plan “B.” Lindsay Lohan!
