SOUTH CAROLINA FALLS FURTHER BEHIND … AGAIN

FITSNews – October 19, 2007 – Last month it was Virginia kicking our asses, this month its Florida (again).

South Korean-based shipping company Hanjin and the Jacksonville Port Authority announced this week that a new $360 million container terminal would be built in Jacksonville with private money – the second multi-million dollar port expansion that city has announced in the last three years.

“Jacksonville is well on its way to becoming one of the largest and most successful port cities on the East Coast and the premier logistics and transportation hub in the Southeastern United States,” its port manager said.

Meanwhile, South Carolina is “well on its way” to f*cking irrelevance. Why? Because our pea-brained Ports Authority has sat around for the last two decades with its thumb up its ass, refusing to recognize that the Cold War is over and capitalism won. Which is especially sad considering they’ve been in America the whole time.

Leave it to South Carolina – God puts us right next to the ocean, gives us two of the best deepwater port locations in the world and we still manage to f*ck it up completely. South Carolina is seriously like watching a damn baboon try to put together a two-piece jigsaw puzzle sometimes.

Sic Willie, it is obvious you just don’t understand the port business. Public Port Authorities , when they take containers off and on ships, create many more indirect jobs than any private industry would handling the same container. Port Authorities hire PR firms, expensive lawyers, lobbyists, and sophisticated well-dressed economists- like Al Parish.
