ANOTHER S.C. STATE HOUSE RACE, ANOTHER DEMOCRAT RUNNING AS A REPUBLICAN
FITSNews – September 17, 2007 – For the record, we happen to like former State Sen. Tommy Moore. He’s a good guy, which is probably why we didn’t jump down his throat like everybody else did when he resigned his State Senate seat recently to take a job lobbying for the payday lending industry. This is America, jack – and at the end of the day it’s all about the Benjamins (baby).
Of course as much as we like Moore personally, the fact remains that the 2006 Democratic gubernatorial nominee is about as fiscally-conservative as Willie Nelson. In the 70’s.
That’s why we were surprised to hear that the former Treasurer for Moore’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign, Bill Hixon, is running as a Republican in tomorrow’s special election to fill Moore’s vacated Senate seat.
In case any fiscal conservatives out there are wondering why their GOP-controlled government is spending money twice as fast as the rest of the country, appointing Democrats to the Supreme Court and the powerful State Budget & Control Board and presiding over the nation’s worst education system and most antiquated state government, well, here’s your answer.
This isn’t rocket science, people.
If S.C. Republicans keep electing Democrats in their GOP primaries, they shouldn’t be surprised when those Democrats turn around once they’re in office and start spending money like it’s going out of style.
Don’t vote for a duck and then expect it to start speaking Swahili, people. Ducks quack. It’s just what they do.
Borrowing again from the wisdom of former national Democratic Party chairman Don Fowler …
“Ideologically, the (S.C.) legislature is no different from the legislature 50 years ago when it was Democratic. They changed partisan identity because that’s the way the political winds were blowing. But it’s no different than it was 50 years ago.”
Wake up, SCGOP.
UPDATE – In case you’re interested, here’s what the local newspaper had to say about this race over the weekend. We’re impressed, Edgefield.com!
