HOUSE WAYS & MEANS CHAIRMAN ISSUES CURIOUS RESPONSE TO POTENTIAL REVENUE SHORTFALL

FITSNews – August 23, 2007 – House Ways & Means Chairman Dan “Egg-tooth” Cooper gave an interesting response yesterday when asked what he thought of the potential revenue shortfall facing our state as a result of the Republicans’ recent spending orgy in Columbia. The Egg-tooth, a primary architect of the 41% increase in state spending over the last three years and one of three RINO’s who voted to put a Democrat at the helm of the State Budget and Control Board, had this to say:

“We’ll just fund what we can and go with the highest priorities,” Cooper said, noting education and health care. “I’ve been through two downturns. We just have to be cautious how we grow programs, and I think we have been.”

Uhhh … “cautious” only works here if you’ve sniffed an awful lot of glue today. Or if your definition of the word includes letting Lindsay Lohan drive your kids’ carpool. This is, after all, the same guy who built a $250,000 sports complex (named after his dad, Dolly) as part of a secret legislative slush fund he co-administered with State Sen. Hugh Leatherman. As for Cooper’s “highest priorities,” we think this list pretty much sums it up.
