FITSNews – May 6, 2007 – One of the greatest pitchers ever to pick up a baseball is returning to the game’s greatest stage in the hopes of reclaiming the championship glory that has eluded him at every other stop in his age-defying, record-shattering career. Roger Clemens – who has amassed 348 wins, 4,604 strikeouts and a major league record seven Cy Young awards – announced today that he is returning to the New York Yankees, the storied franchise with which he won his only two World Series rings. From the Times story:

The sun was shining, the Yankees were ahead during the seventh-inning stretch of their game against the Seattle Mariners and it seemed as if the day couldn’t get any better. That’s when the Yankees’ public address announcer, Bob Sheppard, asked the 52,553 fans at Yankee Stadium to direct their attention to the owner’s box behind home plate.

Of course there was Clemens in the owner’s box, probably with a baby bluebird chirping on his shoulder or something, saying he was glad to be back yadda yadda yadda. While details of the Rocket’s contract were not immediately available, rumor has it his haul for the 2007 season could end up totalling $4 million – a month. It could also end up costing any fantasy baseball owners who took a pass on the 44-year old thinking he wasn’t going to play again in 2007.
