SOUTH CAROLINA’S PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUCK, BUT THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE THE SNAZZIEST LOOKING REPORT CARDS MONEY CAN BUY

FITSNews – January 23, 2007 – Stories like this one make us wonder whether or not South Carolina should consider throwing in the towel.

Seriously, this whole “running a state” thing could be too much for us.

According to Jim Foster Bill Robinson over at La Socialista, it appears the Education Oversight Committee wants to upgrade South Carolina’s school report cards to make them more “user-friendly.”

That’s right, the state with the worstest public schools in the nation wants to make sure its report cards look real pretty like. To wit:

The format for some statistics included in the annual report would be changed, and some information considered obsolete would be eliminated. Bar graphs would replace pie charts, and a new front page would provide readers with explanations of achievement trends for individual schools.

There are a lot of analogies that come to mind. We ultimately settled on “you can’t polish a turd” though. It’s just the one that seems to fit the best.

But wait, it gets better:

Betsy Carpentier, (JoAnne) Anderson’s counterpart at the state Education Department, said the agency has received much feedback from educators who say the current version is difficult to understand.

Wonderful.

Because this certainly couldn’t be an indictment of how dumb our teachers are. That would be politically incorrect.

Yup. Gotta be those confusing report cards that used pie charts when they should’ve used bar graphs.

Cause that’ll fix it.

i thought there were only 2 default grades “F – Junior didn’t learn anything” and “A – Junior didn’t learn anything, but he’s gettin kinda big now, and he’s the only kid in middle that’s old enough to buy cigarettes, so we may as well give him a shot at high school.”
